COMMENTS ON PROGRESS OF HARVEST

MARINA DEL REY, CA- October 7, 1998 -Scheid Vineyards Inc. (Nasdaq-NMS: SVIN) commented today on the progress of the 1998 harvest as of the third quarter ending September 30, 1998.

Mr. Scott D. Scheid, Chief Operating Officer of the Company, stated, "As of September 30, 1998, we have harvested approximately 7% of our producing acres. Mr. Scheid also commented on the Company's stock repurchase program. "Thus far, we have repurchased 194,000 shares in 1998. We instituted the stock repurchase program in July because we felt that at current price levels, it was in the best interests of the Company and our stockholders. Under this program, we have Board of Directors' authorization to purchase approximately 100,000 additional shares."
